Terms of Use

These terms apply when you visit xtar.io, join the waitlist, or play Xtar, including any beta or test version and the game at app.xtar.io (together, "Xtar" or the "Service"). The Service is operated by Xtar ("we", "us").

By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

1. What Xtar is

Xtar is a fantasy football game. You build a team from players in a past football season, and that season's matches are then played out by our simulation engine. Your team earns points from how your players perform in those simulated matches, and you are ranked against other managers who entered the same contest.

Xtar is a game. It does not show, predict or depend on any real match being played today, and nothing in it is a forecast of a real-world result.

2. Who can use Xtar

2.1 You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority where you live if that is higher.

2.2 You must be legally able to agree to these terms, and you must not be located or resident in a Restricted Territory (see clause 4).

2.3 You may hold one account only. It is for you personally and you may not sell, lend or share it.

2.4 We may ask you to confirm your age, identity or location at any time, and we may suspend your access until you do.

3. A game of skill

3.1 Xtar is a game of skill. It is designed, built and operated so that results are decided by the decisions each manager makes, and so that better decisions win more often.

3.2 Those decisions are yours alone. In a tournament you see the draw before you pick a player. You choose eleven players within a fixed budget and within a limit on how many you can take from any one club. You choose your formation and your captain. Between rounds you decide which players to keep and which to replace. In head-to-head modes you make further choices, such as draft picks, roles, tactics and substitutions.

3.3 Every manager in a contest competes under the same conditions. Everyone has the same player pool, the same budget, the same draw and the same fixtures, and everyone's team is scored against the same simulated matches using the same published scoring rules. The simulation is driven by each player's historical record, including ratings and form. As in real football, individual matches vary and the stronger side does not win every time. That variation is identical for every manager in the contest, so what separates one manager from another is the team each chose.

3.4 We do not take a side. We do not set outcomes and we have no interest in which manager wins a contest. Simulated managers are used only in practice and free-to-play contests (see clause 5.4); every entrant in a paid contest will be a real person. Simulations are run on our servers, and each one can be reproduced and checked after the event.

3.5 How the law treats games of skill, fantasy sports and simulated sports contests differs from one country, state or region to another. Clause 4 explains where Xtar is not available.

4. Where Xtar is not available

4.1 We do not offer Xtar to, or accept as a customer, anyone located or resident in a territory where games of skill, fantasy sports contests or simulated sports contests are prohibited, are treated as gambling, betting or gaming, or may only be offered with a licence, registration or approval that we do not hold (each a "Restricted Territory").

4.2 Whether a territory is a Restricted Territory is decided by us, and it may change as laws change or as we obtain approvals. We may apply different rules to different parts of the Service. For example, we may make free-to-play features available in a place where paid contests are not.

4.3 You are responsible for making sure that using Xtar is lawful where you are. Nothing on the Service is an offer or invitation to anyone in a place where that offer or invitation would be unlawful.

4.4 We may use your IP address, device and other information to check where you are. You must not use a VPN, proxy or any other method to hide or misstate your location, and you must not give us false information about where you live.

4.5 If we find that you are in a Restricted Territory, or that you have hidden your location, we may block your access, close your account and cancel any entries you have made.

5. The waitlist and the beta

5.1 Joining the waitlist means you agree to receive emails from us about Xtar, including your invitation. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email. Joining does not guarantee you a place, and we may invite people in any order.

5.2 Xtar is in beta. Features may change, be reset or be withdrawn without notice, and progress, rankings and balances may be wiped.

5.3 Any balance shown during the beta is a test balance. It has no monetary value, cannot be withdrawn and cannot be exchanged for anything. The same is true of Coins and any other virtual item in the game, at all times.

5.4 Practice and free-to-play contests may include simulated managers so that a contest can start without waiting.

6. Paid contests

We may introduce contests that have an entry fee and prizes. If we do, they will be offered only where we are satisfied it is lawful, only to people who pass our eligibility checks, and only under additional contest rules that we will publish first. Nothing in the current Service is an offer of a paid contest.

7. Fair play

You must not:

  • use more than one account, or play on someone else's account;
  • work with other managers to gain an unfair advantage in a contest;
  • use bots, scripts or any automated tool to play, enter contests or collect data;
  • interfere with the Service, try to get around its security or its location and eligibility checks, or exploit a bug instead of reporting it;
  • use a team name or username that is abusive, misleading or that infringes someone else's rights.

If we reasonably believe you have broken these rules we may void your entries, remove you from a contest, withhold anything you would otherwise have won, and suspend or close your account.

8. Names, statistics and our content

8.1 Xtar is an independent game. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any league, competition, club, player or governing body.

8.2 Player names, club names, competition names and historical statistics appear in Xtar to identify real historical seasons and are used descriptively. Their use does not imply any endorsement or connection.

8.3 The Xtar name, logo, software, simulation engine, design and content belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable permission to use the Service for your own enjoyment. You may not copy, modify, resell or build on it without our written consent.

9. Play within your limits

Xtar is entertainment. Play because you enjoy it, and take a break if it stops being fun. If you want your account restricted or closed, email us and we will do it.

10. No guarantees

The Service is provided as it is. We do not promise that it will always be available, free of errors or unchanged. If a contest is affected by a technical fault, we may correct the result, replay the contest or cancel it, and our decision on the outcome of a contest is final.

11. Our liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise, to the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, data or opportunity, arising from your use of the Service, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim, if any.

12. Closing your account

You can stop using Xtar at any time and ask us to close your account. We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if we are required to by law, or if you are or become ineligible under clause 2 or clause 4.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the effective date above, and for significant changes we will tell you by email or in the game. If you keep using the Service after a change, you accept the updated terms.
